What is ILTRM?
Oct. 11, 2018
This month, we have a new event that is going on all around the school. It is called the “I Love to Read Month.” Students all around the school will be reading for a prize. The score for prize is based on the amount of minutes the students read. Whoever reads more minutes attains numerous prizes, some of the prizes being up to three dress down days, a homework pass, and many more. Our Journalism class encourages you to read more and drop everything and read!
reading is our superpower
I interviewed the principal, Ms. McKinney, who started the ILTRM. She wants ICSU students to become better students. She also states that “studies show that reading for pleasure to increase students abilities in all subjects.” She is also trying to improve our faith, by making the Bible worth double minutes. Ms. McKinney got the inspiration from other schools she worked in. It has shown improvements all around. The ILTRM month is done to improve students’ work ethics and help us.
There are morals for lots of things like books and movies, and there is also a theme for this ILTRM. For this ILTRM, the theme is Reading is my Superpower. Like Ms. McKinney said, reading helps us improve our abilities. The goal for this month is to “spread the joy of reading, while at the same time increasing reading skills, and integrating a Biblical worldview throughout the month.” There are also teams, and there are prizes for the highest ranked team, so students can be encouraged to read more and get prizes. There are four teams: the X-Men, the Avengers, the Titans, and Justice League. Students should be influenced and they should make reading their superpower!
