Fortnite Isn’t The Best Game
November 30, 2018
The popular game, Fortnite, has been blowing up recently due to its intense 100 man free-for-all game mode, “Battle Royale”. In the past, it had been overlooked, but ever since Epic Games had added the Battle Royale mode to Fortnite it has become extremely popular. Fortnite has interesting game mechanics that separates it from other battle royale type games, such as, Building, wacky weapons and utilities, and a cartoonish-look. Many popular internet celebrities have moved to Fortnite, and they have become very successful because of it. There are several reasons as to why it isn’t the great game like many people like to say it is.
Many streamers and YouTubers have become popular thanks to Fortnite. Among them are, Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, Turner “Tfue” Tenney, and Nicholas Teddy “Nick Eh 30” Amyoony. These are all very popular streamers who were able to find success through Fortnite. Ninja had already been a streamer, but he had a small following, but when he started playing Fortnite, he grew at an exponential rate thanks to his talent at video games. Ninja was possibly the best player when Fortnite’s Battle Royale first released, however, that has been changing over the year Battle Royale was out. Tfue, a member of FaZe clan (a professional gamers clan), like Ninja has also been a streamer, but he was able to grow with Fortnite. Tfue is considered one of the best Fortnite players and an exploiter. Nick Eh 30 is a Canadian streamer who has had a long history with streaming and YouTube; he had grown a small audience before Fortnite blew up, but he amazed everyone with his editing skills. Edits are a utility you can use on your buildings and give you an edge over other players. Although he originally been the “King of Edits”, this statement can be argued that Mason “Symfuhny” Lanier is better.
There are many facts that go into the idea that Fortnite isn’t the best battle royale. There have been extremely harsh criticisms against Epic Games' Fortnite. John (8th) from ICSU states that, “Epic Games’ staff is very good, but they aren’t very smart”. He also stated that, “Updates seem forced because not much is added. Also, the community complain too much, and they are also toxic”. John claims that the weekly updates aren’t very approving, and although the staff are good workers, they don’t do things the community wants. This can’t be completely pinned onto Epic Games, however, since the community also complains about many things. When I asked John for an example of the community’s complaints, he replied with, “The community complains about their [Epic Games’] poor choices, and making the staff regret their decisions”. Many Fortnite players also aren’t the best people; for instance, many players are toxic, and they don’t base you off of your skill, but rather your wins and how long you have been playing for.
