Today in chapel we watched a video about two teens talking about their life, and how they were getting bullied because of what they believed . The theme of the small group study today was “Identity”.

The first teen was a girl named Laura. She thought that she did not have a point in life, and that she lacked grace.. Laura had horrible thoughts about herself. She thought that she was ugly, fat, and did not have a purpose. Then, one day,  she was reading the bible and found out her purpose. A verse that you can find about “identity” is Colossians 3:1-3 which states, “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God”.

Then, there was a boy named Bud. Bud had been a Christian for awhile, and was bullied because of his faith. He said that in the beginning, he laughed at the jokes that his friends made, but then it got to the point where they made jokes that offended his faith. He wanted to speak up, but he just couldn’t. He knew that the bullying wasn’t going to stop, and that he would have to do something about it.. He asked God to give him the courage to stand up for his faith.. A lesson that we can learn from Bud is that God is the only one to rely on, not other people nor earthly things. A verse you can find regarding courage  is Isaiah 41:10 which states“So do not fear, for I am with you do not be dismayed, for I am your God I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”.

So, what can we take from this lesson? We learn that we should rely on God at all times, and shouldn’t be depending on other earthly matters. Don’t let everyone undermine you and think you are worthless because in God’s eyes, you are perfect. For in Isaiah 41:13, it says,  “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you”.
